I have been working on some self promotional illustrations aimed at girl/women’s magazines. Trying to keep the style loose and light. The sketch is Pentel brush pen on detail paper with colour added in Photoshop.

This one was sketched quite loosely with black pencil on Bristol paper. A watercolour wash was added over the top.

Here’s the same drawing but coloured in Photoshop.

These are my first two roughs.

Heres my final version all ready for inking. Col-erase pencil on bristol board.

inked with Calli black ink and sable brush.

I erased the blue pencil and painted it with watercolours. The colours were adjusted in Photoshop to give it a more retro feel.

Two more girls inspired by big eyed art.

Quick characters (crow quill nib on detail paper)

Girls for my sketchbook (pencil and fineliner)

Here are some quick sketches made in Photoshop.

Here’s a character i refined with pencil and fineliner on detail paper. This was scanned (100dpi A4) and placed in Illustrator.

I used the pen tool to redraw it keeping all the various sections on separate layers. At this early stage i am just using greyscale fills mostly to get a sense of the values but also don’t want to be distracted by colour.

Here is the first colour version (above).

The vector artwork was opened up in Photoshop. I tried to give a more painterly look by using soft edged brushes.
